Why Vintage?

If you are looking to re-decorate your existing home with some fresh ideas but do not know what best suits you and your family, why not consider the vintage style? Here are some reasons why I am recommending this theme :

1. Recycling - It aims to utilise what you already have and sometimes don't even want anymore, like an old rug, an unused lamp, a bright coloured mug, etc. 

2. The older the better - The vintage style can incorporate various colours, theme and items and still you will not find it odd. That's the beauty of it. After all, the rustic look of old is the main celebrated theme in vintage, therefore, the older the better. 

3. Budget - Before you throw that rug, lamp or mug out the door, think again. It may be torn or chipped in places, that's why you can't give it away neither will you want to use it anymore. Since it's free, why not incorporate as part of the mantel piece design?

4. Environmental-friendly - The fact that you are disposing less of unwanted items which  prevents waste of potentially useful materials, it also reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials. Therefore, playing your part in the waste hierarchy - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle 

Be careful not to clutter the room with too many individual items. It may seem like a good idea at first to begin restoring some unwanted parts yet when you become too engrossed, the likelihood of cluttering is bigger.


The main idea is to keep it simple and charming. What you like may not be favoured by another person, do not worry, after all, creativity is abstract. No individual is alike, nor ideas alike. You may have plenty of ideas. Do not let them go to waste. I would suggest to re-decorate twice or once a year (if you have the energy and time) to have the best of all your ideas.
